Prisoner hanged in Iran

Tehran, Aug. 03 - Reza Mohajer, a prisoner in Gohardasht Prison in Karaj (west of Tehran), was hanged at dawn on Monday, after serving 11 years in prison, opposition websites reported.

He had been charged with murder. He was to be hanged on three previous occasions but each time was given a retrieve.

Past United Nations rapporteurs on the situation of human rights in Iran have confirmed that Iran executes many political prisoners on ordinary charges, such as murder or drug trafficking.
